ATP Godspeed! You Black Emperor - match report

I don’t know. ATP just didn’t work for me this year. Maybe it was the weather, or the fact I was shattered. Or that I’ve just moved. Or hey, perhaps it was my half-finished film sat on a harddrive at home. I don’t know. It was not the time to spend a freezing weekend at a Butlins. But enough of all that boo hoo hoo. Here’s a playlist of:

    My favs

And Godspeed You! Black Emperor were good, even if it did edge towards shrill at times.

But special mention must be made to Wolves In The Throne Room. Not only did they have a pretty evocative name, every aspect of their time at ATP was carefully art directed to reflect their image of organic farmers from the deep forest of the Pacific Northwest. And who may also be into black magic stuff too.  Their mersch stand was covered in branches from their forest, candelabras, and tarot cards - as well as some pretty beautifully designed items. They had an amazing vinyl copy of their Diadem of 12 Stars. I could only really get into Wolves for about half an hour, but I was completely blown away by their craft as musicians and their slavish attention to every detail. I was taken away to somewhere new and entertained. I just wish I were more into their music.

ATP was still fun. Just expensive, cold fun. The cinema programme was made almost entirely of stuff like Chromo Sud:

Interesting, if a little low on the lols to be honest.
